Genius Jewelry Care Hacks Every Woman Should Know

"I have enough jewelry." – said no woman ever!

Indeed, bling will never be out of a fashion-obsessed woman's wish list. She may have boxes packed with all sorts of jewelry pieces, but the moment she sees a pretty necklace or an exquisite pair of earrings, the world knows that no one can stop her from owning that. And when it comes to storing, cleaning and taking care of jewelry, most women are equally attentive. For those who aren't, here are some handy tips –

Diamond Jewelry

A woman's BFF! Diamonds are the costliest, and thus, need the most amount of care and protection. Some tips and tricks –

Since diamond stones with claw settings or prong settings are more prone to fall off, one must check them occasionally. And get them fixed, if need be.

It's always advisable to take off diamond ornaments while working in the kitchen. Constant exposure to heat may cause the luster to fade.

One of the best solutions to clean diamonds at home – mix together warm water and ¼ cup ammonia. Dip the jewelry into it for 15-20 minutes. Use a soft toothbrush to scrub away the dirt.

Pearl Jewelry

Graceful and gorgeous, pearls do demand extra care because they are the most delicate, as they can suffer discoloration or scratches, if not well taken care of. Here are some tips :

Never store your pearls in plastic bags. Swear by airtight boxes instead.

Chemicals, especially perfumes, hairsprays or body lotions, are majorly responsible for the discolored pearls. So next time you use those products, you know you need to first keep your pearl ornaments away.

Chlorine too is harsh on pearls. So just remove them before you are going to a take a dip in the swimming pool.

Gold Jewelry

Though not as delicate as silver, gold does lose its sheen, if not handled well. What you need to take care of –

Clean your gold jewelry with a mild detergent and lukewarm water at least once a week.

Ammonia or chlorine are harmful for gold, as they weaken the metal. So never bring the two in contact with one another.

You can always trust white vinegar to clean gold. Keep your jewelry in a bowl of white vinegar for 15-20 minutes. Scrub with a soft toothbrush and you're done!

Does your gold jewelry have precious stones? Avoid cleaning them with alcohol-based liquid.

Silver Jewelry

Silver is highly reactive and prone to chemical reaction faster than any other metal. Things you need to do –

Store it in an airtight box or zip pouch, and never in a cardboard, paper or wooden box.

Don’t store it with any other metal.

Use plain soap and water to wash your silver jewelry at home.

For that sparkling new shine, line a bowl with aluminum foil. Add hot water, followed by a mixture of baking soda and salt – one teaspoon each. Keep your silver jewelry in this solution for 25-30 minutes, and you are sorted.

Ready to get the most out of your favorite accessories, aren't you? Go, sparkle!
