The Little Black Dress
A little black dress is a staple for every fashionista’s closet. As the famous quote goes, when a little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place. So ubiquitous is its presence, that it not only gets its own acronym (LBD), but also has songs written in its praise. None other than Coco Chanel designed the first LBD. It has survived and thrived for 90 years now and still rules our hearts with its endless possibilities. The Givenchy little black dress that Audrey Hepburn so memorably wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s— aka THE little black dress —reported sold at auction at Christie’s in London for a staggering £467,000 (roughly $920,909) in 2006. While your LBD may not command that kind of a price, it certainly is very versatile. Add a jacket and pair it with pumps to create a work-look. Add black heels and pearls strands and you have the “classy” look. Add a beads necklace, statement earrings, a chunky bracelet and you are ready to rock the night out.
The LBD acts as a dark canvass and allows your accessories to shine. Add a colourful scarf to the dress to bring out the vibrancy of the outfit or add a broad camel leather belt to accentuate your waist.
The LBD is and will always be in vogue, a girl’s wardrobe is incomplete without one!
