Teachers’ Day 2019: Most Inspiring & Memorable Teachers In Bollywood

It is Teacher’s Day. A time to let our love and gratitude towards our teachers find expression. To thank them for mentoring us, inspiring us to do our best.

On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, here’s a look at some of the most inspiring teachers in Bollywood, who guided their students to glory and self-actualization. Here’s our pick, in no random order.

Shah Rukh Khan, Chak De! India

As the disgraced India hockey player, who is accused of match-fixing, Kabir Khan is every bit a shattered man, forced into a life of anonymity. But the talented player finds purpose and inspiration in his tough role as coach to the Indian women’s hockey team, that is set for the World Cup.

Despite the odds, the shadow of his past and the constant power tussles that cast a long shadow on the team’s performance, Khan guides his team to World Cup glory, setting a record.

The final moment when the team scores the winning goal and Khan staggers back, speechless, overcome with emotions, will remain one of the finest moments in any sports films ever.

Aamir Khan, Taare Zameen Par

This is definitely one of the most well-loved and respected characters that Aamir Khan has played in his life, Lagaan included. In Taare Zameen Par, Khan played Ram Shankar Nikumbh, teacher of drawing and art.

But Nikumbh is more than an art teacher, as we soon discover. He has tremendous empathy and an ability to draw out the quietest child in the classroom.

The way he helps Ishaan overcome his fears and his disability through art and positive communication, left every single person moist-eyed and filled with happiness. A rarest of rare cinematic achievements.

Rani Mukerjee, Hichki

Feisty, sassy and a lot of heart. A truly inspirational character, Rani Mukerjee’s Naina Mathur ticks all the boxes of a teacher we would love to have in our lives.

Even as she suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome, she takes on the challenge of dealing with underprivileged children in a school where conflict and mistrust prevail.

The way she deals with her own vulnerability while helping the children overcome theirs is stuff that makes for a great watch in the film Hichki!

Hrithik Roshan, Super 30

It is definitely one of Hrithik Roshan’s best performances ever. As Anand Kumar, the man from humble moorings who created India’s most successful IIT coaching centers ever for underprivileged students, Roshan played a superhero without a cape.

Here was a man who had taken on the world to persist with what he believes is morally, ethically right. Despite the lure of money and an easier way out, Kumar decides to stick to his faith – that the brightest gems are nurtured in the darkest places.
