Black is the new red/maroon/pink for the New Age bride. Designers are egging brides to go beyond the reds and maroons in ornate cholis, anarkalis and saris. While Tarun Tahiliani showed embroidered black floor length anarkalis, Monisha Jaising had black off-shoulder slinky gowns. Rahul Mishra who is known for his love for monochromes had black lehengas with ornate floral embroidery. Actress Disha Patani made a daring statement in a black lehenga and cropped choli by Manav Gangwani. Jewellery tip: A black lehenga or a sari is a perfect canvas to play with your jewellery. Flaunt a statement necklace or a chunky pair of earrings. If nothing else, go for an ornate supersized maatha tika. blog-01Jewel up in this colourful passa with pearl beads for a regal look. Haute shoulders

Shoulders are one of the best things to show off after your face. The showing of the shoulders – whether off or cold -- is a trend that we particularly love. While Varun Bahl’s uber-feminine line inspired by Art Nouvveau with vintage floral embroideries had cold-shoulder white ethereal gowns, Reynu Taandon used peacock-blue hues in lightweight Chanderis for her off-shoulder cholis teamed with intricate gota patti and mirrorwork lehengas. Rahul Mishra went a step further in showing cold-shoulder choli for the chic bride.

Jewellery tip: Take care not to overcrowd you neck area as you are enhancing that part. You can either keep your neck bare by just wearing delicate bracelets on your wrist or flaunt a statement choker. Add some glam with delicate chandbalis, hoops or long danglers.

Capes and Jackets

Watch out for cape blouses and embroidered jackets as they are teamed with lehengas, saris and gowns. While Rohit Bal had capes as outerwear over blouses, Bahl had cape blouses over gowns. Shyamal and Bhumika added spice by pairing lehengas with kalidar jackets. We loved fashionista Athiya Shetty sashaying down the ramp in a black embroidered lehenga paired with gold sequin embellished long jacket. On the other hand, showstopper Alia Bhatt looked resplendent in a bejewelled jacket top with nude lehenga by Manish Malhotra. Jewellery Tip: For a glittery look, sport a bejewelled pearly choker. blog-03A vintage pearly choker is all you need to stand tall and make a fashion statement. Shop here

Ruffle power

They are everywhere in this frilly season. We loved the ruffles sprinkled with glitter in Shyamal and Bhumika’s line of blouses over lehengas. Ruffles and long trails also featured in Manish Malhotra’s gowns and skirts. Gangwani experimented with ruffles in bandhni and woven zari georgette saris.

Jewellery Tip: Sport a ruffled blouse with medium-sized earrings or a simple pair of studs. Necklaces aren’t usually recommended but a delicate choker necklace will add a dash of glam. A cuff bracelet is a safe bet to sport this trend.

Skirts

A must-have for today’s bride, skirts featured in many designer lines. Soft tulle ballerina skirts featured in Anita Dongre’s ‘Tree of Love’ line which she beautifully paired with embroidered tunics or shirts. Malhotra’s line which was all about shine and glamour featured billowy organza and silk tulle full skirts.

Jewellery Tip: Wear a statement maatha-patti for a regal look. Go for simple earrings or just a sturdy bracelet. blog-05

A simple pair of delicate gold plated danglers with cuckoo motifs will work well with an embroidered tunic and skirt.
